The face can be a site for appearance of tumours. It is imperative to get all such lesions examined by a plastic surgeon as the diagnosis, treatment and excision can be discussed at one consultation. Facial Skin Cancer Removal and Reconstruction:
There are three main types of skin cancer.
Basal Cell Carcinoma Most common (and least aggressive) is a basal cell carcinoma. This type of cancer never spreads to other areas of the body but does cause local tissue invasion and destruction. A basal cell cancer is easily cured when treated early but can cause significant deformity if untreated.
Squamous cell cancer and melanoma have the potential to spread elsewhere in the body but typically are caught before this happens. . When treated early these types of cancer can be easily cured. A skin cancer typically presents as a slowly growing lesion of the sun-exposed areas of the face. The lesion may ulcerate, bleed, or crust over. Occasionally there is some itching or mild discomfort.
A melanoma usually presents as a pigmented (coloured) lesion. The colour may be brown, purple, or black. Any mole that has irregular borders or colour variations should be evaluated by a physician to rule out melanoma .If a skin cancer is diagnosed the lesion is removed either in the procedure room or in the operating room. The excised lesion is examined by a well qualified pathologist in the laboratory to ensure that no microscopic disease was left behind. Once this has been verified, the wound is closed. For larger lesions, a skin graft or rotation of surrounding skin may be required to achieve closure. " The standard tissue expanders available from the manufacturing companies are usually circular, rectangular or crescentic (croissant) in shape and are usually made in commonly required volumes/capacities from 50 cc to 1000 cc in increments of 50 cc-100 cc . Most defects can be quite satisfactorily reconstructed using standard expanders available off the shelf from the manufacturer. ”

My aged mother had a lesion near the nose for the last months. It was slowly growing. We consulted Dr. Shivaram Bharthwaj who reassured us that it was a benign form of malignancy called Basal cell carcinoma which he removed and covered the defect with a local flap.

My mole in the face was suddenly itchy. I consulted Dr. Shivaram Bharthwaj who tested it for a melanoma. Luckily it had not spread anywhere else in the body. I had it removed in a timely action.
